The Substring function is very useful for getting the a portion of a string based on a starting location in a given string. Sometimes you need to get a portion of a string within in an string - for example you may need to get the characters that start at position 4 and contain the next 7 characters. This sample script will show you how to accomplish this.
Select CustomerName, Substring(CustomerName, 4,7)
From tblCustomers
Where CustomerName Like '%golf%'
