Example and Notes
Use this SQL Server example as a starting point for development, troubleshooting, reporting, or maintenance work. Review it against your schema, data volume, permissions, and SQL Server version before using it in production.
This sql script is very useful for finding/searching specific data in a field. You may have a situation where you need to use a wildcard to find data. For example, you may want to search a character field to find all records that start with a certain character or characters, end with a certain character or characters or contain a certain character or characters. The scripts below will show you how to accomplish this.
--Ends With -- This script will return all records that end with a "B"
Select YourField
From YourTable
Where YourField Like '%B'
--Starts With -- This script will return all records that start with a "B"
Select YourField
From YourTable
Where YourField Like 'B%'
--Contains -- This script will return all records that contain a "B"
Select YourField
From YourTable
Where YourField Like '%B%'
