Example and Notes
Use this SQL Server example as a starting point for development, troubleshooting, reporting, or maintenance work. Review it against your schema, data volume, permissions, and SQL Server version before using it in production.
This sql script is very useful for displaying the number of years and months of a specific date - such as a birthdate. The code below will show you how to accomplish that.
Create Function [dbo].[AgeMonths](@prmDOB As SmallDAteTime)
Returns Varchar(150)
AS
Begin
Declare @prmREturn varchar(150)
Select @prmREturn = cast((DATEDIFF(m, @prmDOB, GETDATE())/12) as varchar) + ' Years ' +
cast((DATEDIFF(m, @prmDOB, GETDATE())%12) as varchar) + ' Months'
Return @prmREturn
End
A sample call to this function would be: Select dbo.AgeMonths('4/29/74')
which would return: X Years X Months
